State and Territory Energy Office – Federal Agency - Private Sector Coordination Meetings

NASEO will organize a small group of State Energy Office representatives to share their states’ building energy efficiency and affordability priorities with partners from federal agencies and private sector organizations and associations. State and Territory Energy Offices interested in participating should email sfazeli@naseo.org.

1:00 PM - 1:15 PM

Welcome and Opening Remarks

NASEO leadership will welcome attendees and set the stage for the Summit.

1:15 PM - 1:45 PM

Administration Priorities and Opportunities for State-Federal Coordination

Building energy efficiency, affordability, and resilience can play a critical role in U.S. economic leadership and security. This opening keynote will provide insights into the U.S. Department of Energy’s priorities and opportunities for state-federal coordination on building energy technologies.

1:45 PM - 2:45 PM

State Innovations Advancing Energy Efficiency, Affordability, and Resilience

This panel session will feature State Energy Offices leading programs and investments to improve the quality, energy performance, and affordability of their states’ building stock.

2:45 PM - 3:45 PM

Energy Efficiency, Demand Flexibility, and the Grid: Opening Opportunities in an Era of Load Growth

When energy is used and saved, as well as how much, matters a lot. Increasingly, demand flexibility and grid-edge resources allow orchestration of electricity demand, storage, and supply to reduce peak loads, mitigate grid congestion and stress, and optimize resources. Hear about states, utilities, and businesses advancing new connected solution technologies, policies, and programs to lower costs, augment capacity, and enhance reliability of our power and energy systems.

3:45 PM - 4:15 PM

Thermal Energy Storage: Opportunities for Buildings and Facilities

Storing heat and cooling is both an old and new way to improve buildings and reduce costs. Water heaters as thermal batteries; pre-cooling and heating of buildings; and dedicated thermal energy storage technologies, including ice-making, phase change materials (PCMs), and ground-based storage can all save customers money and help electric utilities manage loads to support power system reliability and affordability. This session will highlight for State Energy Offices a range of thermal storage and management cases and applications, and how they can support state objectives.

4:15 PM - 5:00 PM

Thinking Outside the Box: States’ Approaches to Tackle Extreme Heat and Boost Resiliency

Buildings offer vital services to protect public health, comfort, and affordability during extreme weather events. This session will explore steps states can take to help communities weather extremes by investing in cooling technologies and smart surfaces both within the building envelope and beyond.
